WE ARE THRILLED WITH WHAT PORTA-GRAZER OWNERS ARE SAYING!
Thank you Walt!!! My horse Bo is a bit unique. He thinks those big 4 x 6 rubber stall mats are toys and makes teepees out of them because they are all connected together (moving one about isn't enough). He also moves large water tanks full of water. I hope he does get over the fascination with playing with the grazer, he moves it all over the property, but he does that with anything that isn't anchored down. Needless to say, he's getting some practice time on the trailer this week with the grazer. He's on there right now and happily eating out of it and so far hasn't turned it over once.
Again, thank you so much!! I know these are going to reduce the amount of work when we have to break camp every morning at 3 or 4 a.m.! Karen Chaton 5/11/2011

Hi Walt & Sharon: I'm about ready to head out of town for the 2000 mile Pony Express ride! I plan to alternate the two horses, riding each one 50 miles per day over the course of eight weeks for a total of 2,000 miles. I am so excited that my horses and I have your support and that we are going to be using something that will not only make my life easier, but will also provide a better, healthier way for my horses to eat.
There will be a couple of others on this trip using porta-grazers. We will be the first endurance riders using them -- no doubt, there will be lots of others once people see how wonderful the grazers are. Since I put the new clear hose on them, Bo has not been able to get the internal feeder part out. I have to say that it's been quite impressive to see how the horses have taken to the grazers. Both of my horses have hay in their stalls that has been there for over a week. They would rather go eat out of the grazers! Thank you again; your support is much appreciated! Hi Walt! I bought one of your PortaGrazers last week and set it up in my paddock. The one horse I feared would take out the grate has not yet tried it, as far as I know. She does, however, roll the PortaGrazer into her stall and sets it upright in the corner every night. I guess she doesn't want the other horses to mess with it. Anyway, I ordered two more just yesterday. I plan on putting them in the upper paddock so all three can eat their hay up there without wasting it on the ground. Thanks for telling me about your product at the Denver Rocky Mountain Horse Expo. Debbie Puglia ************************************************************************************************
I’m really liking my Porta Grazer so far:I would love to hear about others experiences in using these with cattle and sheep. Thanks! Jeanine 6/4/2011

Hi, Walt, I wanted to let you know how much Juarez and I LOVE the Porta-Grazer! His paddock is much cleaner - no hay blowing all over and getting wasted, and it takes him 4-5 hours to finish a flake of hay. The most amazing thing happened - one night I put a handful of loose hay on top of the grid, and instead of eating it, he pushed it aside and went for the hay he had to pull out through the holes! Thanks for developing such a great product. Marilyn 6/10/2010

Hi Walt. My name is Susan Dockter and I spoke with you at the Expo on Friday regarding the distribution of your product. I am the horse trainer that works with Chris Cox. My horses are happily using the Porta-Grazer and I'd like to set myself up as a distributor for your product. This would only be the second product in the course of my career that I have been willing to endorse and distribute. You can find out more about me on my website. If you could forward the information that I will need to get started, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much, Susan Marie Dockter 6/14/2011

I bought a grazer at the Backwoods County Horsemen event in Red Bluff, CA for a rescue horse I adopted that came off a 40 acre pasture and had to change to twice a day feedings. The grazer makes it so easy because he "grazes" as he was used to and is no longer the surly horse he was when he had dedicated feed times. I want to purchase two more and am hoping you will be a vendor at the Sacramento Horse Expo. Please tell me "yes" :) Beverly 5/26/2011

Hi Walt, I purchased the 7 grazers for my small barn in Beavercreek Oregon. I have to say after reading the directions :> you is right the grazer is no longer tipped over with the feed pan pulled out. Imagine that! I am interested in becoming a dealer, what do I need to do to make that happen. Thanks, Tammy – Scott and Tammy Lundervold, Painted Forest Stables

Hi Walt, I received the portagrazer and took it to the barn. The quarterhorse mare took to it immediately. some of the boarders really liked it for traveling, long winter days in the stalls, and camping out...thanks. Will keep trying it out with other horses. I cannot thank you enough for making a workable feeder such as the Porta-Grazer. So many have been made, but so few compare. My horses are patient to be fed, and really seem to like their feeders. One month in and still completely loving them! Jaci Weishaar

Hello Walt;
We gave your feeders a try, pretty surprised at how well they work. I ended up needing to isolate two mules and decided well here we go feeder "test" animals. Being a man I ignored your instructions and just stuffed a bunch of hay in the bucket dropped the insert in and threw in a bit more on top to get them started and called it good. I also threw in a few loose flakes in case they just flat out wouldn't eat out of the feeders. As I drove off both Mules were stuffed head first in the feeders. The next morning there was a bit of hay in the bottom of one and most the hay in the other. Looked like they had pulled as much as they could from the full one without rotating it, there was still some loose hay around on the ground from the night before, so they were full. I rotated it a couple times and both mules came to watch, I re-filled the feeders and threw some loose hay out. They immediately started fighting for the "good feeder" (emptied the night before) I had told one of the older stock handlers that you said that they would fight for the feeder even if there was loose hay available and he laughed out loud, when these two started arguing over the "good feeder" the wrangler noticed and said "well all be go to hell their fighting for the feeder" I grabbed the loser and took him to the other feeder and he started eating the loose hay off the top. After he finished the loose hay I showed him how to rotate it and off he went. I read the instructions you gave me at this point and thought, hmmmmm I don't have time for this, their figuring it out, and they did. I'm pretty sure they learned how to use the feeders by watching me spin the insert and pull a few bites by hand in about three days. This morning I was out working on the Mules, had them tied and their pen was empty, when I looked over and saw a horse just about breaking his neck to get his head through the stock panel to see what those mules had in the big green bucket. I tossed the feeder over the fence and the horse walked up to it flipped it up straight and started feeding. I worked on the mules for about an hour, twice I noticed the horse rolling the feeder around so I walked over turned it strait and pulled a few bites up for him. I'll try this for another day or so before I stoop to putting grain in the bottom. My thoughts are..........Mules are plenty smart enough to use the feeders if you just show them a couple times, no need for the "start up procedures" Horses though more romantic and majestic realize Mules are smarter and try to emulate them. Call me in a few days and I'll let you know if Cisco the horse figured it out on his own or if I had to put a little grain in there...

Hi Walt and Sharon, I received my grazer 2 days ago. I am not on face book but would be anxious to hear any new information or updates. So far the feeder is working fine. I have introduced it to my Fjord first. If it works out well for my two horses, I will order another. When I first acquired my Fjord, she was really obese. Her weight is now perfect. I have been feeding her 18 lbs of low carb (tested) grass hay daily in divided portions along with "Challenge" supplement. She is borderline insulin resistant and is obsessive compulsive over food. I wonder how well this type of horse will do eating free choice from your feeder? Or should I maintain her on the 18 lbs of hay daily? I wonder if she can sensibly self regulate and not re-gain too much weight?I appreciated all the information you gave me over the phone about your feeder and about barefoot trimming. My horses are barefoot sound, even on rocky trails. Sharon Sharpnack DVM

Hello, I wanted to thank you for inventing the Porta-Grazer. Update on my Jaxon and the Port-a-Grazer He is a different horse. He no longer runs his front teeth against the panel when I come to feed him. He stands quietly and walks compliantly out to the pasture. He chooses to eat from the grazer rather than a flake of hay. Thought I’d share this as I am so pleased with the grazer. It will definitely help during his recovery and confinement.Thank You, Sue Pastor

Hi, Susie Adams here. I would like to come pick up the three portagrazers for Michele Vaughn sometime next week. What is your schedule/business hours? Would Saturday or Sunday (Feb 19/20) be ok if I can't make it on Friday? I can also come earlier in the week if you are gone for the weekend. Hi Walt, I board my horse at Sue Adams place in Woodland and she bought several Porta Grazers from you. I was wondering if I could order 2 and pick them up from you. Let me know as I think they are a great feeder! Regards, Ingrid Westin 916-716-1973

Hi Sharon and Walt, I'm Laura Afana that bought a porta grazer for my haflinger that I've been feeding out of small mesh hay nets and a control feeder (http://www.warmspringsproducts.com/). I spoke to you of my Haflinger. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that Sunday evening when I got home and fed her in your feeder, within 30 minutes, Scharly had gotten the tray out of it by tipping it over. She ended up dumping the hay out of it and I was sure this was not going to work for us. In fact, when I called Pam (my friend that bought one at the same time with me), her horse was being a lady and it wasn't even knocking it over. But you know, I don't have a horse, I have a Haflinger. :o)
This morning when I used it again, I put only 2 lbs in it, and she wasn't knocking the tray out. By the time I'd put her complete am feeding into it (6 lbs total); it took her 3.5 hours to eat all of it. That's great. In fact, my husband and I did put a slit down about 10" of an old section of hose and slipped that onto the green edge so there would be no way Scharly would get the tray out without pulling off the hose. She hasn't done that yet. Only once did she leave the pg to see what I was doing with hay still in it. I'd be glad to send you photo's if you'd like. I almost sold mine to Pam's daughter after the first night, but I'm glad I stuck with it today. I'll see how tomorrow goes. Also, Scharly does enjoy knocking it over and rolling it around her dry lot. And standing it back up. She's quite entertaining.
If you end up using my idea for an extra tray blocker, just send me the flyers half price. I can't wait to pass them out with my number on it so I can make some money for both of us. lol Yours, Laura Afana

Hi, Just got home with the Porta-Grazers I bought at the packing clinic at Klamath Falls. I already have two of them loaned out for friends to try before I even get to use them. All I have to do is tell them about the product and they are begging for a loan. Just carrying them out to the car I had two people approach and tell me what a great feeder they were and one gentleman driving in to see the clinic asked if you were at the show selling them. I gave him directions to your booth. He said he saw them at the Albany, Or. horse show and said as how he thought they would be great for feeding horses...Just wanted to say thanks and will let you know how my mules and horses like them Thanks again. I purchased one of your Porta Grazers Sunday and the Washington Horse Expo. I was the one who came up around 2 pm with cash. I bring my horses inside to stalls in the evening and turn out again in the morning. One of my horses is chronically agitated in the morning and handling him in this state requires strict adherence to a routine for the handler's safety. It was this horse that I wanted to try the Porta Grazer on. He is also a stall weaver and an acid reflux/ulcer horse. I have used the feeder two nights now with his p.m. hay feeding and so far I have seen a delightful decrease in his morning agitation. The first night I just put the feeder in his stall, but the second night I secured it in a corner because I was afraid he could break his automatic waterer as he moved it around.
Although I have only used it two nights, my preliminary thoughts are that it is everything you said it was. Thank you for such a nice product. If you need a distributor in the Portland area, please contact me as I have a beautiful farm and I think I could sell a lot of them. I am very familiar with the medical problems associated with easy keepers, horses with boredom habits, and metabolic problems. All in all, I wish I had invented it! Thank you, you will help a lot of horses, Barb Belknap, Wilsonville, OR

Hi Sharon & Walt, I bought the porta-grazer from you @ the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale a few days ago and I can officially report I’m thrilled with it and so it my little mule! It works just as advertised – no waste, dirt filters to the bottom and best of all its keeping my mule busy and she’s not chewing the fences anymore – yippee! She figured out how to eat from it right away but today is the first day she tipped it over and I caught her quickly figuring out how to tip it back up on video (attached below for u 2 view). You might be getting calls from my sister Steffi, sister in-law Paula as well as my farrier as I think my enthusiasm has them convinced the initial investment will be justified. Anyway – just wanted to give you my positive feedback & happy trails… Kris 2/1/2011

HI, I purchased a portagrazer at the Brookside show in August. I really like it. I took it to a show and people commented on the convenience. He was eating out of it and I had water in the lid. I use it for him to eat with every day. thanks, Mary

Hi,We talked yesterday and it was helpful. Thank you I used the Porta Grazer last year at an endurance ride. The thing I love most is the lid/water container. My horse does like to tip buckets over so this is the first product that I can rely on to not tip and keep water provided for her. I do not use the restrictor pan at the actual ride because it is the goal to get as much hay as possible in to the horse before the ride starts. I do use the barrel though. The first feeding is soaked hay to provide moisture not reduce sugar. Then it is good to keep hay off the ground.
Since you mentioned you will attend the AERC convention, I thought this might be helpful. You will find most endurance riders to be well educated and very concerned about the welfare and health of their horse. They are also as a group most apt to be looking for a bargain. Just my opinion!

Good Morning Walt: Well, I admit to the fact that I WILL BE FOLLOWING the pattern of so many others that have bought grazers from you...as soon as I can afford it, I will buy them for the other three horses!!! I have a couple of people considering having me buy one for them as well after seeing them and how they work!
One word: FANTASTIC.
I will admit that I found that the ponies had a hard time "getting it" with the small holes. I was frustrated, they were frustrated and I was beginning to worry it wasn't going to work like I had hoped. I was about to give up when I started to soak hay for the evening feeding my IR pony (bless you for putting the drain in these feeders!) and that was all he needed...it seemed to make the hay easier to pull up through the holes and helped him get the hang of the spin method of eating from the basket. The stiffer Teff hay that I feed is definitely a little more difficult to pull through the holes and they would break off the hay right under the holes and then act like there was no way to get the feed out. The other pony was eating orchard grass in one feeding a day and since it's softer, it helped him figure it out. So, I kept the faith, experimented a bit...and success!
I can tell you that this is the first time I have had my IR pony relax about food. Instead of obsessing about eating anything and everything that is not nailed down, he can rest; take a sun bath, and just chill. Everything you told me about the chewing satisfying him is absolutely true. He's much more content on his limited ration!
While he has not lost any significant amount of weight, there is just a change in him. He's less cranky and I get the sense that his insulin is better since he's not chowing down on two big meals a day, but rather nibbling on and off all day. When I enter the barn, there is not this frenzy about the next meal. I usually just pull the basket out and they clean up the crumbs stuck around the inside and then I add new hay and the ponies are quite happy.
Now the challenge is to budget for three more for my full size horses...and to get a lid for the pony when he travels.
I appreciate the check in. Right now I am trying to find Teff hay (tested low NSC) at a reasonable cost since I really have such success with that hay. As soon as that is accomplished, I'll be in touch to buy more feeders...minimum three!!! Best regards, Sherry Note- This particular, vet one of many, now using and recommending PORTA-GRAZERS!!!!

LOVED this!!! When I saw Willow eating from it the other day, she looked content...pulling her strands out. The kind of hay makes a differance in how easily it is eaten too. hers was course. For 2 flakes-it took her 3 hours! Though I heard noises and wondered if she'd lift the resticktor out..nope..it has to be perfectly LEVEL to come out..two handed humans and not mouthy horses lift it out, and definately if it were knocked over, it would not release the hay!Attaching it to the stall wall-for daily use-is the way to go.But for the BEACH SAND and the Central Oregon sand, we are going to ride in this summer...THOSE are perfect! No more "Sand Clear" doses for fear of sand colic! Great!KK allhorsestuff

I've been using this for about a year (the designer is my farrier) and my horse loves it! The barn staff put it inside his old feeder (a large water tank bolted to the wall) and it works great. He likes it so much, he ignores all the loose hay that gets dropped on the stall mats when they carry the hay into the paddock.
